The Northeast’s most experienced tradespeople, heavy equipment operators, and project leaders are retiring. We have to prepare the next generation to take their place, but local contractors don’t have the resources for formal training programs.

In 1986, Bob Sweeney bought a backhoe and started digging. He surrounded himself with knowledgeable people and learned on the job. As his business grew, he saw a clear need for better, faster, more consistent training pathways in civil construction.
Four decades later, he established SCCA: a nonprofit designed to bring civil construction’s next generation up to “the Sweeney standard.” Today, SCCA partners with schools, trade programs, and civil construction companies to build the Northeast’s future workforce.
